English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL)
The ESOL program is designed to provide quality American English language instruction to foreign-born US citizens and resident aliens who wish to communicate more effectively in English. The classes emphasize the fundamentals of grammar, conversational skills, listening comprehension, vocabulary, writing ability and accent reduction. It is taught as conversational English, using the total immersion approach. The ESOL program also exposes students to a variety of American customs and cultural traditions. Classes are offered for students at all levels.
SFSC currently serves students from various countries who collectively speak many different languages. Classes are offered during the morning, afternoon, and evening. During the past year, the ESOL program has provided classes at different sites including Highlands and Hardee counties.
