SFSC’s Commercial Vehicle Driving course prepares you to pass the Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) examination and become a truck driver.
The mission of the Truck Driving Academy at SFSC is to cultivate safe drivers, bolster companies, and foster community growth. Our comprehensive training equips new drivers with the skills to navigate diverse road conditions, weather patterns, terrains, urban areas, mountains, and rural environments while instilling a deep understanding of safe highway-sharing practices. |
SFSC’s program covers:
- Department of Transportation (DOT) rules and regulations, safety, logs, and other legal issues that apply to trucking and transportation.
- Vehicle systems, safe vehicle operation, and hazardous materials
- Personal finances, business math, and public and employer relations
- Extensive hands-on experience with emergency equipment, safety operations, and preventive maintenance
Truck-Driving Simulator |
SFSC’s truck-driving simulator allows students to train on different terrain and weather conditions that cannot be experienced in the state of Florida. Students prepare for driving throughout the nation and the variety of roads and conditions they will encounter. Instructors can replicate any driving situation and train students on the proper protocol for steering through it.

Stats from a local partner: |
“The average first year income is $51,000 to $60,000. Drivers receive 1.5 days off for every week they are out on the road (minimum three weeks out), so for three weeks they can stay home four to five days. Drivers that go back on the road in two or three days will make the $60,000.” |
South Florida State College’s (SFSC) Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) program is certified by the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles for third-party testing and registered as compliant with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) Entry-Level Driver Training requirements.
Tuition is free for those who qualify. |
