Mission: To connect and engage an SFSC Alumni to his/her alma mater, giving back time by mentoring a current student to assist, guide, and be a resource as the student’s education journey continues to the same or similar educational institution.
The PAWsitive Alumni program is a mentorship program to connect an SFSC Alumni who has continued his or her education at a secondary education institution (currently or as a graduate) with a current student at SFSC who is looking to attend the same secondary education institution or to consult the alumni for feedback on the institution he or she attends to assist the student with their decision on the next step for their education. We find that this common link between the mentor (alumni) and the mentee (student) allows the alumni to connect back with their alma mater and give back as well as provide the mentee with someone they can gather information and receive guidance from as they get ready to move on to their next step after South Florida State College. This program allows the alumni to have a PAWsitive effect on the current student as they can share their journey and what to expect on the journey.
Goals:
- Connect and engage SFSC Alumni with alma mater
- Connect and build a relationship with the student and alumni to encourage continued education growth, guidance, and opportunities beyond SFSC
- Organizing and leveraging SFSC Alumni who have successfully navigated admissions and other experiences on their journey after SFSC to reach their education goals
Program Execution:
- Interested alumni sign up to be involved in the PAWsitive Alumni Program
- Faculty and Staff work with students transitioning to a secondary education institution on matching a mentor through the SFSC Alumni Office.
- Once a PAWsitive match has been made, the SFSC Alumni Office will coordinate a first meeting; which can be made in a variety of options and availability:
- in person
- phone call
- online meeting
- other
- From the initial introduction moving forward the mentor and mentee can decide how to meet and chat/discuss the journey and next steps.
- Assist and prepare mentees with key admission processes, applications, financial aid, room and board, and an overall review of the education institution.
- Connecting and building a personal relationship with the mentee to support them in both their academic and non-academic life on this next step in their education journey.
