South Florida State College, in partnership with local healthcare facilities, is offering an Advanced Patient Care Tech Apprenticeship to candidates who aspire to enter the nursing profession. During the apprenticeship, the apprentice will be employed with a local healthcare partner and receive 300 hours of course instruction and 3,000 hours of on-the-job training. After successful completion, apprentices will be promoted into an Advanced Patient Care Tech position and will receive 8 college credits that can be transferred into an undergraduate nursing program.
An Advanced Patient Care Tech works closely with a Registered Nurse and the medical staff. The Advanced Patient Care Tech is paramount in patient care and performs many of the clinical functions, such as:
- Vital signs
- Glucose Accuchecks>
- Daily weights
- Venipuncture for a blood draw
- Foley catheter care
- EKGs
- Home health aide duties
South Florida State College’s (SFSC) Apprenticeship Program
- 3,000 hours/18 months of continuous on-the-job employment and instruction from SFSC
- On-site and online learning with SFSC
- Employment as an Advanced Patient Care Technician
- Receive instruction in nursing, phlebotomy, EKG, and home health
- Students will be assigned to an experienced mentor
- Receive a State of Florida Certificate of Apprenticeship upon completion of the program
Requirements:
- 17 years old or older
- Physically capable of performing essential functions of the job
- High school diploma or GED equivalent
- Must read, write, and speak English
