Campus Safety Advisory 01/02/18
SFSC along with at least 17 other state colleges and several Florida universities received an unsubstantiated warning from an anonymous international email server; the message sent to all institutions was identical. The warning specified that the college may receive a future notification of a bomb threat if a ransom is not paid. Although no specific institution was named, SFSC is taking appropriate safety measures including building sweeps and increased patrol out of an abundance of caution.
Law enforcement at various levels is involved in an ongoing investigation including the Highlands County Sheriff’s Office, Florida Department of Law Enforcement, and essay writing service the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
Normal operations and classes will continue as scheduled, Wednesday, January 3. Additional law enforcement officers will be patrolling all campus locations.
Immediately report any suspicious activity to Campus Security (863) 453-0806 or your Hardee, DeSoto, or Lake Placid campus director. For emergencies, dial 9-1-1.
Further updates may follow as information becomes available.
